Eminent Italian geologist and academic who dedicated his entire career to the study of Petrology at the University of Palermo. After graduating in Geological Sciences in 1968 and receiving a research grant from the CNR in Rome in 1970, he undertook a steady path of growth within the University of Palermo, holding positions as Assistant Professor and Professor of Applied Mineralogy and Structural Petrology, eventually becoming a Full Professor of Petrology at the Department of Chemistry and Physics of the Earth until his retirement in 2005. His scientific activity was characterized by a pioneering and interdisciplinary approach, capable of linking classical geology to the chemical physics of complex fluids and the physics of critical systems, publishing his work in prestigious international journals such as Chemical Geology, Physical Review B, Journal of Geology, and Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors. Among his most original contributions, which also appeared in Geologica Carpathica and Mineralogica et Petrographica Acta, are his research on silicate liquid immiscibility in magmas, the application of van der Waals forces to natural fluids, and the use of fractal geometry and Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) to analyze magmatic processes. Author of numerous publications, Professor Lucido explored frontier topics such as the self-organization of natural systems, proposing innovative theories on the origin of life from vesicle-like structures in cordierite rocks and interpreting earthquakes and magmatic clustering through the laws of critical phenomena, leaving a significant mark on the study of the Earth at the molecular scale.
Here, for the first time, Prof. Lucido proposes that gluons go to make up the dark energy. So, the book is a very stimulating invitation to further promote accelerator research on glueballs. In the author’s opinion the glueball is really the dark matter, precisely the glue, wich keeps the world, including stars, galaxies, planets and life, together.
